Goal Copy Extension Update for FF3

Update to the Update:

Anders at IIH Copenhagen has modified the the Goal Copy extension to work with the alternate HTML that is being seen by some International Users (see comments).

You can get the alternate, international version from http://blog.iih.dk/goal-copy-extension-international/

Thanks Anders

I have updated the Goal Copy extension for FF3 (I hope).

Let me know if there are any issues.

Update: Robbin pointed out the brief nature of this post and that many people would have no idea what I’m talking about. So for those who are going “what the heck is he talking about?”, the Goal Copy Firefox extension can be used to copy goals between profiles in Google Analytics. Take a look at my previous posts if you think this is something you might be interested in:

Hi John,

I just saw that the extension is not working for the funnels in FF 3, it copies only the goals…

Can it be possible?

Thanks.

Hi John, having the same problem that Daniel.

thanks.

John says:

The problem seems to be that when FF3 requests those pages from the server, Google actually serves up *Different* HTML.

The tag names that I’m using to reference form fields, etc are different, so the extension can’t find them.

Here’s one example:

*Standard HTML that I see:

*Alternate HTML that Daniel sees:

I suspect that it is a localization issue, but I’ve not been able to confirm this.

One thing that may work is to install FF2 Portable, and use the extension from there. I don’t know if that will pull the same HTML from Google servers though. . .

I don’t really have the time to rewrite it, and testing would be painful since I haven’t been able to pull the alternate HTML. AND, how many alternates are there?? Who knows.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Even with

and tags my examples show up as actual boxes. Here it is again:

Standard HTML

input type="text" name="ucgo_step7_path" size="30" value=''>

Alternate HTML

input type="text" name="step.7.name" size="20">

Here is a version that works with the *Different* HTML (GA International version)

As far as I can tell there is two different versions of GA right now. One US version and one international version, and changing the language settings don’t make a difference. Can somebody verify this?

I tried this version and it still won’t “paste” the goals, using FF3.0.1 on a Mac

Thanks very much for what looks like a very useful extension. Unfortunately I’m having the same issues others seem to be having using FF 3 (3.0.4). I can copy goals, but they won’t paste into another profile. Have tried both the international & US versions. HAs anyone found a fix for this please?

Thanks.

John Henson says:

Both versions are now the same, and that problem was resolved a while back.

It could be that the problem is creeping up again — this would mean that Google is pushing out new HTML to the GA Goal pages. If this is the case, I will be able to fix it as soon as I get the new HTML.

However, in the meantime, try downloading and installing FF3 Portable, and installing the Goal Copy plugin with that. It will be a fresh install and some people have found that that works for them, where installing it in their regular firefox gives them problems.

Hi John,

Any progress on this? We still can’t seem to paste.

Thanks!

John Henson says:

Realene

There is a conflict with another Firefox Add-on, SEO for Firefox. If you have this add-on installed try disabling it and see if Goal Copy works correctly for you.

If that doesn’t work, try installing a clean copy of FF3 Portable. Then install Only the Goal Copy add-on.

If that works then you can either use it that way, or go back and start disabling Add-ons until you find the one that conflicts.

If that doesnt work, then the problem is probably not with an add-on conflict.
