How To Manage Your Facebook Page From The Updated iPhone App

>>>UPDATE: Having problems with your Facebook App? Check out our post on troubleshooting problems with the app here.<<<

Managing a Facebook Page or multiple Facebook Pages can often be a 24/7 commitment, depending on the size of your Page’s audience and their level of engagement with that Page. facebook page management iphone One way to help lower the amount of time you’re in front of a computer is by posting and interacting with fans from your mobile phone, in this case, the iPhone. The Facebook App for the iPhone was recently updated, making it much easier for a Page administrator to interact with their Facebook audience on the go. To deal with this problem many schedule their Facebook posts when they know they’ll be away from the computer, but there are reasons why you shouldn’t post on Facebook with third party tools.

The latest changes to the app, which coincide with the release of the Facebook app for the iPad, give users a much cleaner layout of the Facebook platform, making it both easy and effective for Page administrators to use. When you first open the Facebook app for the iPhone, the new home screen lays out all your options much more concisely, allowing you to browse your News Feed, check your messages, check-in with Facebook Places, view upcoming events and search through your friends list with greater ease than before.

Facebook Page Management

One of the biggest improvements to the new layout of the Facebook for iPhone app is how your Facebook Pages are displayed. Previously, you had to search through all the Pages you like and admin, and then add them as a favorite. By adding them as a favorite you could quickly access them from the homepage of the app. facebook pages management iphone

Thankfully the new app eliminates this extra step for Page administrators and simply puts all the Pages you administer in a list on the homepage of the app. This cuts down time, making your social media management efforts that much easier. With this change you can now quickly go down the list and choose which Page you wish to update. You can also see numbers to the right of each Page on your list of Pages, indicating notifications for that particular Page. This change helps Page administrators spend less time roaming their Facebook Page on their iPhone for comments from fans and more time responding to fan feedback because it’s now super easy to see that a notification was triggered.

Posting to Your Facebook Page

You can still share a photo on your Page, write a post for your Page and respond to a comment on your Page as you did before with the previous version of the Facebook for iPhone application. However, sharing a photo on your Page has slightly changed when it comes to the variety of customization options. After you land on the Facebook Page you wish to update, you’re given two options once you’ve reached the wall tab. facebook app iphone photo sharing You can either write a post or share a photo in terms of updating the Page. Writing a post simply allows you to add text or links to an update on your Facebook wall, while sharing a photo allows you to share a photo of your choosing. The photo option has become a little more dynamic in terms of allowing you to tag others and write a caption. By clicking on the photo anywhere, then typing in the name of a person, event, group or Page, you’re able to tag them in the photo you’re about to share. The photo you share can come from a photo you’ve just taken or from the photo album on your phone. The ability to add a caption is super easy as well. All you need to do is tap where it says write a caption and begin typing away. From here you can upload your photo to your wall at your leisure.

Other Noteworthy Features

App Notification Settings, Made Easier

You were always able to change the notification settings of your Facebook for iPhone app, but now they are much clearer and easier to view and change.

External Applications Integration

Facebook External Apps updated
Applications like Foursquare and Instagram already existed as applications within Facebook, but they’ve been made more accessible from the updated Facebook for iPhone app. The new layout seamlessly integrates the applications already given access to your Facebook account and installed on your iPhone. This is an interesting move for Facebook in terms of Foursquare and Instagram because Facebook at one time wished to dominate the location based social media vertical and in the case of Instagram, Facebook attempted to buy the company and incorporated its photo filters into Facebook. In both cases, Facebook failed to overtake the market these social platforms specialize in. Maybe this is Facebook’s salute to these platforms for capitalizing on what they do best?

Privacy Settings Added to App

The new app also addresses the continuing concerns that Facebook users have regarding privacy. Privacy settings were not very clear within the previous version of the app, but now they are much more concise and easier to customize right from your iPhone.

Facebook Places iPhone App

Facebook Places with an Easy to View Friend Map

Facebook Places was Facebook’s big push for the last year or so, but recently they handed the torch off to Foursquare and gave up on controlling the location based social media space. However, this feature shows you where your friends have recently checked in on a nice, Google Maps style map.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the Facebook for iPhone app will be upgraded again in the future. Until then, do you find these latest changes helpful for your social media monitoring efforts? What other changes to the Facebook for iPhone app would you like to see?

Gavin says:

I am Admin for a Facebook page. But no “page” area appears on my iPhone Facebook app. How do you add it or make it appear to list my app home?

Brian Honigman says:

Hey Gavin,

Sometimes Facebook can be buggy, so I can’t say for sure. Try updating your app, signing in and that out from your app or re-installing it until it recognizes you admin that particular Page. Let me know if this helps. Have a good week!

jeff says:

Unless I’m overlooking something it looks like you still can’t tag people in a general post using the @ [other than tag them to a photo]. Is that correct? Or is there a workaround I’m not seeing?

Thanks!

Brian Honigman Brian Honigman says:

Hello Jeff,

Unfortunately, you are correct. You still aren’t able to tag Profiles or other Pages in the posts you create for your Facebook Page. You can only tag other Profiles or Pages in your photos at this time. There isn’t a workaround that I know of as of yet. I’ll keep you in the loop. They’ll fix this bug eventually, it’s just a matter of when. You can tag other Pages and Profiles from your personal Profile, quite easily. My guess is that Pages will soon have this same level of usability in the future.

Have a great week, thanks!

Wendy says:

Can you add other pages to the Facebook app, other than the ones you admin? I like to follow a few faves and the old app let you add them.

Sean says:

Is there anyway to see the updates of the fans I have liked using my fan page? This is essential..

Leo says:

Dear Brian,

I wonder if you could help with the question.
Via web, when using my personal page I can ‘Share’ any of the page’s news with my friends by clicking ‘Share’.

Can’t find this option on the iPhone app. I can merely Like or Comment.

Thanks,
Leo

Brian Honigman says:

Hey Wendy,

You unfortunately aren’t able to add Facebook Pages to a favorites list that you don’t admin. You were able to with the old app, but they’ve since removed this feature.

=====

Hey Sean,

Can you explain what you mean more specifically? Are you talking about other Facebook Pages you add to your page favorites list?

===

Hey Leo,

You unfortunately aren’t able to share content from the wall of a Page like you were able to with the previous version of the app. Sorry!

magoo says:

From my iPhone, I am unable to post on my business page’s wall – if i go to my business page and “share photo” or “write post”, it appears on my personal profile page! What am I doing wrong?

Brian Honigman says:

Hey Magoo,

You’re right, using “share photo” or “write post” allows you to post on your Facebook Page. Make sure you’re an admin of the Page. Other than that, the app can be very buggy at times. I once posted to a Facebook Page that I admin and it posted under my personal account. Basically, they’ve still got bugs to fix because it it isn’t perfect. Thanks for reaching out!

magoo says:

Yes I think that is what keeps happening – since updating the app on my iPhone, I can no longer post to my business page. Even if I am on my business page and click share photo, it still goes to my personal page. It used to go right up on my business page. If it is buggy, is there any way to fix it? Or will it go away?

Brian Honigman says:

Magoo,

You double checked that you’re an admin? Otherwise, i can’t say for sure. Check to see if there’s another update to the app. Until, then you have to wait on Facebook to fix the particular bug you’re dealing with. :(

Rachel says:

I think my question is similar to Sean’s. I currently have a 9 next to my page name letting me know of 9 new notifications correct? How do I know what those 9 are without going through every single photo, status, etc trying to remember what is new? Haha. My memory is not that great and being a photography page, that’s a lot of pics to go threw to find comments or questions I possibly. Need to reply too. Thanks!

Brian Honigman says:

Hey Rachel,

I’m experiencing the same problem. The app is still far from perfect, so there isn’t any exact way of telling where a particular notification is other than checking our Wall Posts and other content on your Page. Hopefully in the future Facebook will correct this problem. Thanks!

Steve says:

How do you write on someone’s wall on the new facebook for iphone?

Annie says:

Hi Brian,

I have 2 business pages. On the iPhone app i cannot see how many likes one of the pages have. This is the page that where I also have claimed a place. On this page I only have Activity and Info as a choice.

But on the other Page, where I have not claimed a place, I have Wall, Info and Photo as a choice, and I can see how many Likes the Page has.

What is the difference og why can´t I see the number of Likes on the first Page?

Brian Honigman says:

Hello Steve,

Just visit which ever one of your friends profiles you wish to interact with and select the Write Post button to write on their wall.

Hey Annie,

On Facebook Places it only gives you the ability to use the Activity and Info tab. You can update your Place through the Info tab, but you can’t see how many fans like your Place.

On a Facebook Page it gives you the Wall, Info and Photos tabs and the ability to see how many people like the Page under the Info tab.

The only difference is one is a Place Page and the other is a regular Page. I’m not sure why there is a difference, but this is probably a reflection of the minor layout differences between a Facebook Place and Facebook Page on the web.

Thanks!

Jason D says:

is there a way that you can “share” a friends post from the iphone app?

Brian Honigman says:

Jason,

At this time, the app only allows you to like or comment on a friends post. There’s no share functionality like Facebook has on the web.

Have a good weekend!

LIZ says:

Hi, My lists have disappeared from the left hand column on my iphone. How can i get them back please

Brian Honigman Brian Honigman says:

Hey LIZ,

I suggest logging out of the application, then uninstalling it from your phone. Then re-install the application afterwards. Let me know if this helps!

Thanks!

Andy says:

Hi, I’ve got the same problem as Liz. My Lists category has disappeared from the left hand menu now. I really loved this feature because it replaced the old “favorites” feature of the old facebook for iPhone app. Any ideas?

Andy says:

And logging out, powering off, powering on, and reinstalling app didn’t help. Mine just disappeared about two days ago. I can’t figure out why. Surely they didn’t take away the functionality of the Lists from the app.

Brian Honigman Brian Honigman says:

Hey Andy,

I just took another look at the app just now, couldn’t find how to display my friend lists. However, they were never visible for me to begin with. If you saw the lists one day and then they were gone, then my best guess is that Facebook is still working on the bugs. All we can do is wait, i’ll let you know once I have more information to share. In the meantime, take care.

Min says:

Does the Facebook iPhone app have the ‘view as’ feature like a normal Facebook does where you can see how others view your profile? I can’t seem to find it

Brian Honigman Brian Honigman says:

Min,

Can you explain what you mean exactly? Do you mean the Use Facebook as Your Page feature? Whenever you’re on your Page on the Facebook app your interactions with fans will be from your Page, not your personal profile but elsewhere you’re only able to interact as yourself at this time.

Laughlin says:

Hi Brian,
using the iphone app, I can post a text update to my page as “my page” but when I add a link to the text then it posts as “my personal profile” to my page instead? any idea why this is?
thanks for the article!

Brian Honigman says:

Hey Laughlin,

I can’t say for sure what that is. It’s most likely a bug that you’re experiencing. You aren’t doing anything wrong. Try posting a link for your Page from within the Facebook app instead of texting it.

Toni Jewell says:

Hi Brian-

I have the FB ap on my iphone and can login to my personal page but I can’t login to my business page. I have deleted the FB ap and reinstalled it but I still can’t login. I’d like to manage my personal page and my biz page from my Iphone. Can you please help!

Thanks so much!
Toni

Toni Jewell says:

Hi again Brian-

I just thought I should tell you that I opened my personal page a couple of years ago and more recently started a business page. I’m not sure that I ever “linked” the pages together. Should I have done that? If so, how can I update my facebook accounts to reflect this?

Also, I “liked” my biz page on my personal page but I don’t have any “pages” on my personal page. Is that how I get “pages” to show up?

Majorly confused!

Toni

Brian Honigman says:

Hi Toni,

Thanks for reaching out! When it comes to your first comment, you should be able to access your Facebook Page for your business when you log into your personal account on your phone. Are you an admin on your Facebook Page?

Based on your second comment, I think you don’t have admin access from your personal account to your Facebook Page. Log into your Facebook Page, click Edit Page at the top of the Page, choose Manage Admins from the left hand menu, then add your name to your Page as an admin, enter your password and save. This is how you’ll be able to manage your Page and personal Profile at the same time from your iPhone.

Thanks, have a great weekend!

Toni Jewell says:

Hi Brian-

Thanks so much for your reply! It worked!

I’ve been reading that it’s not okay to have 2 FB accounts. I set my personal account up a couple of years ago and then my business account up recently. When I was setting up my business page I was asked if I had a FB account and I said no (I’m such a newby I thought it was asking if my business had an account) so my personal profile was never connected to my business page. By doing what you said and adding myself (my personal profile email) to my business page, does this mean I am following FB rules by managing only one account? Have a correctly connected my personal profile page to my biz page? I don’t want to get shut down by FB after building my fans because I am managing 2 accounts. Still a little confused!

Thanks again!

Toni

Elaine Hehemann says:

Can I delete a comment from a fan using the iPhone mobile app for Facebook business pages?

Brian Honigman says:

Hey Toni,

You’re correctly following FB’s guidelines. Having a Facebook Page and Profile is not a problem. You won’t get shutdown. Let me know if you have further questions.

Elaine,

You can’t delete a wall post on your Page from the Facebook iPhone app. Sorry.

Toni says:

Thanks Brian! I have yet another question for you… Why does my computer slow down when I use Facebook? It’s a significant slow-down, I can’t scroll down the page and the profile words are a little jumbled. I’m using a MAC OS X 10.5.8.

Thanks again for you help!
Toni

Brian Honigman Brian Honigman says:

Hello Toni,

I can’t say for sure. There’s a lot of factors that could be affecting how slow Facebook comes up on your browser.

Kat says:

Hi! This is such a great resource.

Here’s my question: is there any way to change it so that you can post as your personal profile on a page that you admin from the Facebook app? On Facebook from the computer there’s a setting where you can do this. I can also post as my personal profile on the page I admin from my phone’s internet browser. But I can’t find an option to toggle this on and off from the Facebook app. Thanks so much for any help you can give me!

Brian Honigman says:

Hello Kat,

Thanks for reading! There isn’t an option to change so that you can post as yourself on your Facebook Page from the Facebook app. Hopefully Facebook will add this functionality in the future. Have a good weekend!

Nice article
how to post with my name on facebook page which i am alraedy a manager of it, using ipad?.
I am asking because when i am posting using ipad the post will be under the page name not my name.
but when i use computer i can switch between my name or page name.

Brian Honigman says:

Thanks for reading Jamal. As of now, there isn’t a way to switch between posting as yourself or as your Timeline on your Timeline wall from the Facebook app for iPad, iPhone etc. Have a good weekend.

Dave says:

Brian, in your response to Jeff (Oct 18), you say that “You can tag other Pages and Profiles from your personal Profile, quite easily.” I can see how to tag Profiles (hit the plus button, then select from my list of friends), but how do I tag Pages, whether on the iPhone app or the computer?

All of my other questions (for now) have been answered by your article and responses to comments. Thanks for this terrific resource.

Leslie says:

Does doing that make your post show up as being posted by the page, or by you?

Brian Honigman says:

Hello Dave,

I just tried to tag another Page from the wall of my Timeline business Page and it was not possible from the app. However, to tag a Page from your profile on the computer, just like the Page that you want to mention and then use an @symbol with their name in your wall post to get a drop down menu to select the proper Page.

Thanks for reading!

Brian Honigman says:

Hello Leslie,

This depends on your admin settings for your Page. Go to your Admin Panel, Manage, Edit Page and finally visit Your Settings to choose whether you normally post as yourself or as your Page on your Page.

Have a good week!

Kristi says:

Ive been updating my pages from my iPhone for te past two weeks and now all of a sudden it has stopped working and started posting it as my personal profile posting on my page… Any way to fix this?? It was so convenient!

Brian Honigman says:

Hey Kristi,

I can’t say for sure what the problem is. I’ve experienced the same problem myself. The only thing I can suggest to try is re-installing the app on your iPhone and see if that helps. Other than that, it’s merely a bug with the app that Facebook themselves has to eventually fix.

Stephanie says:

Kristi,

I have been running into the same problem for the last few weeks. Did the uninstall and reinstall help??? I’ve been changing all kinds of settings etc…nothing has worked.

Marian says:

I administer 2 pages. Suddenly one of them is not allowing me to post from my phone. It displays differently to the other page I have. The bottom bar says “Activity / Wall / Info / Photo’s” And there’s no way to post if I go to wall. On the other page it has only “Wall / Info / Photo’s” in bottom bar and Write Post and Share Photo up top. Hoping someone can help me!

Marian says:

It also says “locating you”and “check in” which the other page doesn’t say. So frustrated!! Have now deleted fb app off phone and reloaded and looks the same. AAARGH!!

Laurie says:

I am the admin for a page and i want to access it from my iphone app. If i log in under my name and try to switch to be the admin and post pictures, i can’t do it! How can i post pictures the group through the app?

Kirti says:

Same issue. It looks like a bug in the application. I browsed and now reached to a point where i cant find a way of returning back to my ‘facebook home’. I am on my profile page. On the top it gives options as “status” “Photo” “Check In” and bottom options are “Wall” “Info” “Photo”.

Belinda says:

I can no longer access the page I adminster (fan page) from any phone, and even though I am admin – I can’t get to it from my own IPhone – I used to be able to – but suddenly stopped working in the last week :( If I type in the url it says ‘sorry something went wrong ;( ”

Anyone else having this issue? I have reported it, but I suspect it’ll be a while..

Hey Belinda,

Are you using the iPhone app or Facebook’s mobile site? Try using the opposite of whichever you currently use – to manage your page on the mobile site, just go to facebook.com, log-in, then click the three horizontal bars on the top left corner and select your page. The page should be at the bottom of the pop-out menu, unless you’ve added it to your favorites on the desktop site, in which case it will be at the top.

If that doesn’t work, you can access the desktop site by scrolling to the bottom of the pop-out menu on the mobile site and selecting ‘Desktop Site’. Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Dan

Belinda says:

Hi Dan, tried to access both ways …. Not sure if I have the desktop thing exactly, but deleted the app for iPhone .. Then accessed thru standard fb login on browser … Still no joy …I have reported … Weird given it was all working fine up to about a week ago … What I have discovered is I can access the page without the m.facebook URL default ( so direct http://www.facebook.com/artistname works fine :( ) … Don’t know what to do !! Reported to fb, but nothing do far

Hey Belinda,

Sounds like they’re having some issues on their end. If you have another admin account for that page, you could try having them remove and re-add yourself from the list of admins for that page – maybe that will kick it into gear. Otherwise, it sounds like all you can do is wait until Facebook gets back to you. Update me if anything changes and I’ll see what I can do!

Cheers,
Dan

Hi,i’m kelly.it’s been a long time i cannot acces through my iphone mobile facebook app. Suddenly i can’t open it anymore unless i will use my safari to open my facebook account..is there another oprions to use again my fb mobile browser?! Tnx!

Hi Kelly!

You’re not the only one experiencing this problem – we’ve had a few people ask about the same thing. I would suggest continuing to rely on using Facebook in Safari until they patch or update the app, as it seems to be a somewhat widespread problem. I also would suggest getting another admin to remove and then re-add you to the list of admins for the page, just to see if that doesn’t jostle it into working. Finally, I would recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the Facebook App. If none of those solutions works for you, you can file a report on Facebook’s Mobile Help Center – https://www.facebook.com/help/community/?id=816.

Hope this helps!
Dan

Dallah says:

I have two friends who manage their facebook pages using an iphone and both of them are having the following issue: When they post to their fan page (doesn’t seem to affect the personal profile) with a photo upload the post does not stream into the newsfeeds of the people who like their pages. If they post without any image then there doesn’t seem to be any problem streaming to the fanbase. Because this occured at the same time as timeline going live they think that may have triggered the issue. Not sure how to fix this. Any suggestions? Im an android user and don’t have this issue, but I use mobile page manager app and it works great. Is there a good fanpage manager app that iphone users recommend?

Hey Dallah,

Are they having the same problem with the online version? Have them check their insights and see what kind of reach the problem uploads are generating – in general, posts only reach about 16% of brand fans. Alternatively, you might suggest they follow the same steps I mentioned above and have someone else remove/re-add them as admins of their pages and reinstall the app, just to see if that makes any difference.

Cheers,
Dan

Dallah -

Having the EXACT same problem, except with a Droid. Photos won’t publish to people’s newsfeeds if they’re uploaded via phone. Ex. a picture uploaded via mobile gets two likes, whereas the exact same photo & caption uploaded 15 minutes later on the web gets 150+ likes in the same amount of time. Anyone figure out a solution??

Kayoko says:

Hello,
I am having an issue uploading links as the Page Admin on my page.
The app lets me write a post, or share a photo, but when I try to add a link to another webpage, it reverts back to my personal profile, as though I am posting something on my Pages’ wall.

Does that make sense? Is there any way that I could use the Facebook app as my Page, instead of my personal profile to post web links?

Hey Kayoko,

I’ve had the same issue before uploading something using the mobile app on my Android phone. I’m not sure what causes it to revert your post to your personal wall, but until a fix is issued I would suggest using the mobile site and reverting it to the desktop version. To do that, simply access facebook.com on your mobile device, hit the three horizontal bars at the top left of your screen to open up the side panel, scroll to the bottom of the panel, and select ‘Desktop Site’.

It’s a bit more cumbersome than the app or the mobile site, but for the extra 5-10 seconds you have to spend, you’re guaranteed your post will show up the way that your wanted. The other step you can take is to lodge an official bug report in the Facebook Help center, but your mileage will vary.

Hopefully a fix gets issued soon!

Cheers,
Dan

Stacey Max says:

I’m the administrator for my business’ page but when I post to the page from my iphone app the posting shows up initially but then disappears. It seems like it doesn’t know that I am the admin. Can you help?

Emma says:

I can’t log into my Facebook business page via my iPhone 4s.
I have the up to date Facebook app. I can use it to access my personal Facebook page without a problem.
For the business page, I log in, it tells me if I have the incorrect password
But thats it, it just whirls away never getting past the log in screen.

Hey Emma,

It sounds like you’re having a problem similar to everyone else – I would suggest having a third party un-authorize and re-authorize you as an admin for your page, to see if that jiggles the system back into place. Otherwise, you might try the other steps I outlined above – uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and finally reporting a bug to Facebook.

Unfortunately page owners are often at the mercy of Facebook to update it’s apps when something is misbehaving. Until they get it fixed, I would suggest simply accessing and using your page from the mobile site, which you can do by going to Facebook.com on your phone browser. If that still gives you problems, you might have to navigate the desktop version of the site on your phone – I do this by logging in, opening the side pop-out menu, and scrolling to the bottom, where I select ‘Desktop Site’.

This will give you the full functionality if your page, but is a little cumbersome to navigate. Best of luck, and let me know if you find an alternate solution!

Cheers,
Dan Wilkerson

Dave Strong says:

I have spent a very frustrating day with the facebook app for iphone. My wife wanted an iphone to take and upload photos to her facebook page for a small retail business she runs. She has a facebook page of her own and one for the business. The facebook app defaults to her own page and, despite all my efforts, I cant upload pictures to her business page using the iphone. I can get photos onto her personal page but this is of no use because people use the facebookf logo link on her business web site to go to her business facebook page. Neither can I set up a new page because the facebook site recognises address, email or name details and reverts to the 2 pages already set up. Is there nothing I can do?

Hey Dave,

You might be able to fix things by having someone remove your wife from the pages admin – to do this, you’ll need another admin on hand to re-add her after she removes herself. That might jiggle things into working again.

The other alternative is to simply access Facebook through the mobile site – just open Safari and navigate to facebook.com, click the three horizontal bars in the top right to open up the side menu, and scroll down to your page. From there, she should be able to upload a photo without any problems.

If that still doesn’t work, she can access the desktop version of the site at the bottom of the aforementioned menu and select ‘Desktop Site’, then she can navigate to her page and upload photos that way. It’s a bit more cumbersome than the app or the mobile site, but it’ll definitely work, barring a major bug.

The last thing she can do is hit Facebook with a bug report. To do this, she should head to their developer bug report site, found here.

Hope this helps!

Nayla says:

Hello I just got the iPhone 4S and have a problem reading the notifications of the pages I admin. I can see for instance that I have 6 notifications but can’t locate them when I’m actually in the page dunno where to press to see them. Please help!!

Tracy says:

Hi guys, im admin for a few pages and when using my Facebook mobile app it doesnt let me post a comment as myself, just as my page. Any idea how to change this on the iphone?

Hello Nayla,

I manage my accounts by utilizing Facebooks e-mail notifications and my pages RSS feeds. To activate notification emails for your accounts, you’ll need to go to your page in the desktop version. From there, select the ‘Manage’ tab, and from there select ‘Edit Page’. Then, on the left hand navigation menu, select ‘Your Settings’, and in the menu that displays check the box that says ‘Send notifications to xxx@xxx.xxx when people post to, comment on, or message your page.’ Then, make sure you click save changes, and you will be notified via email whenever someone interacts with your page.

I’ve had some consistency issues with Facebook, so I also have my pages RSS feed set up to text message me whenever someone comments, likes, or shares something on our page. This might get a little unwieldy with larger pages, but for me, it’s a great solution and ensures I’m on top of our community. Here’s a post I wrote detailing how you can set that up for your phone – http://lunametrics.co/JUsQun

Hope this helps!

Dan

Hey Tracy,

This appears to be a problem a lot of people are having with Facebook’s Apps, and thus is out of our control for the time being. We’ll just have to simply wait until Facebook fixes whatever bug is causing the issue, unfortunately.

In the meantime, I’ve found my phone to be fully capable of supporting the desktop version of the site and all of it’s uploading and editing features, albeit a teensy bit slower and a lot more cumbersome to navigate than the mobile version. To access the desktop version of the site, simply load up facebook.com on your mobile device, click the three horizontal bars at the top left to open the left-side pop-out menu, and scroll to the bottom of the menu to the very bottom and click ‘Desktop Site’ – it’s located to the right of your language preference all the way at the bottom.

That will allow you to upload and admin on the go, at least until they fix their mobile apps!

Best,
Dan

I’ve been trying to use the new version of the FB app to manage my pages, but it seems they have removed functionality from the old version. For instance if I want to post a message on my page it no longer let’s me give a location, include a photo etc. If I go to my personal page all those options are still there. Any idea why they removed those options from pages? Can we get it back?? Also when I add a photo it no longer gives me the option to say where it was taken.

Am I missing something or am I alone in missing those features?

Thanks,
Chris

Bimalka says:

Hi Dan,

I’m administrator on a specific page and if I use the facebook iphone app I can never comment or post as myself, it always posts as the page itself. In the page settings, I’ve ensured I’ve un-ticked “Always comment and post on your page as [page name] even when using facebook as [my name]“. This works fine when I use the page on my PC. Unless I specifically change to “use facebook as [page name]” it lets me post and comment as myself. But the iphone app always uses the page name as default and doesn’t seem to have an option for me to revert to commenting as myself. Any help will be appreciated!

cheers,
Bimalka

Hey Bimalka,

Unfortunately, neither Facebook’s mobile app or mobile optimized site allow you to post as yourself onto a page you administer. There’s a work around, however – you can use the desktop version of their site on your mobile device. It’s a little cumbersome, but it will give you the full functionality of the desktop site on the go, including the ability to post on your page as yourself. Unfortunately, this means you’ll have to adjust your ‘Post as…’ settings everytime you wish to comment on your page, but it’s a solution!

In order to access the desktop version of the site, you’ll want to open your side pop-out menu while on facebook.com in your mobile device’s browser. From there, scroll to the bottom of the menu and, at the very bottom and on the right of your language preferences, you should see a link that says ‘Desktop Site’. Click that and the page will reload in the normal desktop formatting.

Other than that, it’s out of everyone’s hands until Facebook adds that functionality to the mobile app. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Dan

Hey Chris,

Unfortunately I’m an Android user, so I can’t speak to any recent changes to the iPhone app, however, in my current Android version I still have access to those features after I start the process of an update. The mobile site seems to have removed this functionality, so maybe it’s indicative of a coming change to the Android platform. Wish I could be of more help than that! The only advice I can give you is to use the desktop version of the site on your mobile browser – you can access it at the bottom of the side pop-out menu next to your language settings if you load up Facebook.com on Safari. That should give you access to all of those features, although it will be a little cumbersome for you to use.

On a different note, what were you updating your pages with that you benefited from using those features? Just curious :)

Best,
Dan

Hey Everyone,

We have an update to this post with instructions on troubleshooting issues with Facebook’s apps. If you’re having problems posting or using certain features, be sure to check it out!

Hi Dan,

Thanks for getting back to me. I’ll give the full desktop site a try, but I didn’t think it would have access to my phone gps. I run a tourist website for Isla Mujeres Mexico and have a page as well. I find it much easier to post updates via the mobile apps while I am out at an event or just want to give an update on something interesting going on. If I’m listening to a band at a local restaurant it helps if I can include the facebook page for that restaurant in the post. I was uploading photos from a sunset cruise the other day and it is nice to include the gps location of the spots etc. I actually like using the twitter app better but haven’t found a way for my tweets to go to facebook as well. FB status is easy to get to twitter and then also displays on my website. It is just a super convenient way to get real time updates posted on my website, which is the real idea because it gets much more traffic than FB or twitter.

Thanks again for your help!
Chris

Hey Chris,

Good news! There’s an app for that – here’s a link that should take you to the Twitter Facebook App, which will automatically publish your tweets to Facebook – https://apps.facebook.com/twitter/?ref=ts

Simply search Facebook for ‘Twitter’ and it will be the top hit, with 8,300,000 active users.

That being said, I would personally advise against it – there’s a difference in the way that your consumers digest your tweets versus your status updates, and you could run the risk of annoying your following into ‘Unliking’ your brand. Additionally, hashtag use of Facebook is something of a faux-pas in the social media world. If you decide to hook up both accounts, keep an eye on your Facebook Insights, particularly the ‘Likes’ section and keep track of how many users drop off versus the frequency of your updates.

An alternative is the Selective Tweets app, also on Facebook. You should be able to find that here – https://www.facebook.com/selectivetwitter otherwise, just do a search for ‘Selective Tweets’. The app will let you pick and choose tweets you’d like syndicated to your Facebook account, so you won’t be overwhelming your following on Facebook. Simply tag a tweet you’d like copied with #fb and it will publish it to your timeline. This can also prevent the aforementioned hashtag faux pas.

I’d be happy to check out your followings and offer you more specific advice, if you’d like!

Cheers,
Dan

I’ve been trying for hours to edit my Facebook profile with the mobile view on my iPhone and I have just not figured it out. I’ve tried following what others have said (scroll down still you see “desktop view”, etc) but nothing is where people say it is. How can I edit my profile using my iPhone 4? Or how can I switch the ciew to standard? It used to be in standard but then it changed without me touching anything. Thanks for any help!

Leslie Shapouri says:

I still can’t access both my personal Facebook account and the one I administrate on my iPhone 4, but at least now I now I’m not the only one. Facebook is not loading through Safari to access the desk top version. I’m not sure why. I’m sure I’ve done it before. I keep trying and will bookmark this site to check for updates. Thanks.

Hey Leslie,

That’s extremely unusual – are you simply not able to log-in? Or does it attempt to register like your logged in but simply go nowhere? A good alternative browser you might like for iPhone is the Opera browser, available in the iTunes App Store. I’ve never used it myself, since I’m an Android nerd, but every in conversation I’ve seen about mobile browsers Opera gets brought up. Give it a shot and let me know if you have any success!

Best,
Dan

Leslie Shapouri says:

I’m not seeing where I can access the desktop version on my phone. It’s not where the bars are or the news feeds. Scrolling on the news feeds just adds more news feeds. Maybe Facebook isn’t very mobile friendly

It’s never been very good at mobile :) (On a side note, that’s pretty much why they bought Instagram and a major concern about their upcoming IPO. I digress) – here’s a post I wrote in response to this that actually details a bunch of different ways to troubleshoot issues with the app – including step-by-step instructions on finding the desktop site with pictures :) it’s here – http://lunametrics.co/JfquEI

If you have any trouble ping me again on either post and I’ll be right there with you to help you through it.

With the switch to Timeline, fans of pages are now able to send messages to a page. The problem we’re having is viewing and responding to PAGE messages on the app… There’s no way to do it that I can see. I can only access the messages sent to my profile. I’m afraid we might just be S.O.L… Thanks for any feedback you can offer!

Hi Dan

Thanks for all the above advice!! So helpful!! I’ve set up a page for my business & made 2 staff administrators.

I can upload a pic or post a comment on my pages wall through my iPhone but is there anyway to post an album??

We have events which would be good to post as a full album. Never had a problem posting on my personal page but don’t seem to ba able to nut it out for the work page..??

Frank says:

Download Facebooks official “Pages” iPhone app, it’s a completely separate iPhone app just like their latest Facebook “Camera” app (the Facebook “Camera” app only works for personal accounts so far).

The “Pages” iPhone app let’s you control all your Fan Pages in one place. You can post updates, photos, view insights and more!

There are some setbacks, as with all apps. On the desktop version of a Fan Page you can choose to customize your update to be be viewed only by a certain country(ies) or language(s), you can’t do this on the Pages iPhone app. You can’t check into Places as a Page either, that would be cool.

I think Facebook may have deactivated the old settings you mentioned you use to use with their “Facebook” iPhone app in an attempt to force people to use their “Pages” app instead.

Hope this helps.

Hey Kristy,

If you’re using an iPhone, you should be able to download the Facebook Pages app, which will be a helpful tool for managing just about everything for your page.

The only problem is, you can’t currently manage messages from fans on the app :( Eventually, that feature will be supported. For now, you can use the ‘View Desktop Site’ workaround I reference in the post linked at the beginning of this one!

Cheers,
Dan

Greetings. As of yesterday I can no longer post pics to the work page I am an administrator for as administrator. Before I could go to that page, click wall and add photo, now the wall button is gone and my only choice is “update Status” which allows me to make comments using my admin profile but uses my personal profile for posting a pic.

Bryant says:

I had the same problem like John, can anyone help us out? or find the way that we can post a picture as a Administrator through Iphone? for the fans page. Thank you!

Bryant says:

John: I found the solution, I think you should download this, and this apps would be able you to manage your page as administrator:

Camilla says:

Hi
I am no longer able to write status updates as admin, it just posts it as my personal page. Can anyone suggest how to get past this? please help!

Hey Camilla,

Have you tried the iPhone Facebook Pages App? It’s separate from the Facebook App and provides direct page admin control. Bryant has a link to the app in the iTunes store – http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/facebook-pages-manager/id514643583?mt=8

Try that and if that doesn’t work, consult the blog post linked to at the top of the page titled ‘Troubleshooting Your Facebook iPhone App’, which should help.

Best,
Dan

Hey Bryant,

Thanks for sharing :) Always appreciate a helpful community member!

Hey John,

Have you tried using the Facebook Pages Manager App? Bryant has a link to it – here it is; http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/facebook-pages-manager/id514643583?mt=8

Check that out and see if that solves your problem, and if not, consult the post linked to at the top of this one titled “Troubleshooting Your iPhone Facebook App”. That should get you started in a helpful direction!

Dan

sorry I made a mistake, I means that I want to post to a pages as private account name not as pages name (I am the admin of this page). It looks like I post to my friend wall

iphone cases says:

Good article , thanks and we want more! :)

Hey Mina,

Unfortunately, the only way you’ll be able to do that that I am aware of currently is to visit the Facebook mobile site and switch to the Desktop Site, then change your Voice at the top of the page and update it through there. Even doing that, you won’t be able to share a photo.

Maybe someone else knows an alternative method I’m not aware of?

Dan

Hey Raphael,

I still see the search bar in the left-side pop out menu – not sure why you’re having troubles with it. To access it, just click the three horizontal bars on the top left, then click the search box – it’s the topmost item in the pop-out.

Best,
Dan

I have an iPhone and when I try to access my personal page on Facebook I get a blank screen. I have no problem with my News Feed. I took your advice on your webpage and de-installed Facebook on my iPhone and turned the phone off. When I turned the phone back on and tried to access my personal page I still saw a blank white screen. How can this be fixed? Thank you.

Hey Marlene,

Sounds like something on Facebook’s end. Unfortunately, you’re just going to have to tough it out until it’s fixed! In the meantime, you can use their mobile site by pointing your iPhone’s browser to facebook.com.

Hope this helps!
